The IGFSA and Why It Matters?

The IGF functions through support from its participants and friends. In order to continue its growth and progression, it needs to have a robust and sustainable income stream. The IGFSA is a channel for additional funding from individuals, companies and foundations to keep the IGF the go-to event for everyone who is interested in the Internet and its governance.  Find out more about background and IGFSA activities in our flyer.

About the IGF

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) brings people together from all stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on issues relating to the Internet.  The IGF is inclusive and anyone can participate.

In addition, the IGF:

  • While there is no negotiated outcome of the meeting, the IGF informs and inspires those with policy-making power. At the annual meeting delegates discuss, exchange information and share good practices with each other.
  • Assists in helping people understand how to maximize Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that arise.
  • Is also a space that gives developing countries the same opportunities as wealthier nations to engage in the debate on Internet governance.  Ultimately, the involvement of all stakeholders, from developed as well as developing countries, is necessary for the future development of the Internet.

The Internet Governance Forum Support Association (IGFSA) is set up to support the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF).  The goal of the IGFSA is to provide stable and sustainable support for the IGF Secretariat and to fund related activities. The IGFSA was  launched on September 1 2014 at the ninth IGF meeting  in Istanbul, Turkey.
