Internet Governance Forum Support Association (IGFSA)

68th meeting of the Executive Committee

30 January 2023

  1. The Executive Committee held its 68th meeting on 30 January 2023. The meeting took place in a virtual setting with the following participants: Amrita Choudhury (chair), Fiona Asonga, Joyce Chen, Chris Mondini, Nigel Hickson, Wisdom Donkor; IGFSA Secretariat Jennifer Chung. A quorum was established for the meeting, with six of the seven Executive Committee members taking part in the call.

  1. The Agenda was adopted as circulated to the EC mailing list. Additional time was requested to review the minutes of the 67th meeting for any comments before adoption.

  1. The Secretariat presented the proposed EC Elections timeline that was circulated to the EC mailing list in advance of the EC meeting. It was noted that there would be three weeks between the announcement and deadline to allow for any additional interested prospective candidates to submit their SOI. The Secretariat also confirmed that the people who that have showed interest during the 2022 GA to run in the EC elections have been guided through next steps, including IGFSA membership and the roles and responsibility of the IGFSA EC. There was general consensus from the EC to publish the elections announcement on the membership mailing list and IGFSA social media channels. EC members also took an action to further disseminate the announcement, when published, on various IG related channels and lists.

  1. The Secretariat gave an update on the ongoing funding requests. It was noted that there were a few requests that were still being processed from the end of 2022. Some requests require additional communication and banking information as the IGFSA bank does not disburse funds to certain countries. The Secretariat noted that the NRI coordinator from South Sudan is currently working with the Secretariat and the IGFSA accountant to see if there are alterative ways to route the funding.

  1. The Chair noted that IGFSA needs to look to reinvigorating its fundraising efforts. It was noted there was a good basis made previously in terms of the value proposition headed by Chris Mondini and Brian Cute, and follow up is needed to outreach and follow up to potential donors. It was discussed that many of the current IGFSA donors have expressed that they would like to see more diversity in funding sources. Past industry donors have also expressed interest to directly fund particular NRIs who may have DNS/industry topics included in their meeting agendas.

  1. There was discussion on how the communication sent by the IGF Secretariat on behalf of IGFSA performed in terms of conversion to new memberships, click throughs to the IGFSA website, general enquires, or funding support request. The Secretariat noted that there was no particular track back from the email link that was included in the email communication sent by the IGF Secretariat on behalf of IGFSA, however, in the future IGFSA can look at collecting statistics that may indicate reach or impact of the communications messaging.

  1. The Secretariat gave a brief update on the IGFSA website and invitation for short interviews from the 2022 funding recipients. It was noted that EuroDIG and Ukraine IGF has accepted the invitation and the Secretariat will follow up. There was discussion that the content of the website can use some refreshing and parts of the short interviews can enhance the testimonial section of the website as well.

  1. The Secretariat noted that as the EC elections timeline will take up most of February, it may be good to schedule the next EC call after the results of the EC elections to welcome the incoming EC members to join. It was noted that there are competing meetings in March and to avoid timing/session clashes.
