50th meeting of the Executive Committee

8 June 2021

  1. The Executive Committee held its 50th meeting on 8 June 2021. The meeting took place in a virtual setting with the following participants: Markus Kummer (Chair), Joyce Chen, Chris Mondini, Jimson Olufuye, Brian Cute, Wisdom Donkor, Nigel Hickson; IGFSA Secretariat: Jennifer Chung. Apologies were received from Brian Cute. A quorum was established for the meeting, with seven of the eight Executive Committee members taking part in the call.

  1. The agenda for the meeting was adopted. The minutes of the 49th meeting were approved to be posted on the IGFSA website.

NRI funding requests

  1. The Chair introduced the discussion on the review of NRI funding requests. This year the IGFSA EC has decided to go into further detail on budget reviews as many NRI meetings have changed the format of their annual meetings to hybrid (online and in-person) or fully virtual.  The detailed review is to allow the IGFSA to allocate funding as appropriate.  Several requests needed further information on budget, and the Secretariat as well as various EC members took an action to follow up further with the NRIs respectively.  There were three requests received (IGF Benin, Bolivia IGF, West African IGF) that also applied for NRI grants from the IGF Secretariat, and the EC decided to put these requests on hold pending results as IGFSA will coordinate with the IGF Secretariat regarding funding allocation.

  1. There was a discussion regarding increasing outreach and maintaining relationships and presence with NRIs that the IGFSA has previously funded. It was decided that for EuroDIG, the IGFSA can work with the organising team for a mutually beneficial arrangement that can also bring awareness of IGFSA’s mission to NRI participants as well as potentially attracting new members.

  1. The IGFSA approved the funding request from EuroDIG and EC member Chris Mondini was asked to further coordinate with the EuroDIG secretariat regarding IGFSA presence at EuroDIG 2021.

IGFSA newsletter and LinkedIn campaign

  1. Joyce Chen and the Secretariat presented the roll-out plan for the inaugural issue of the IGFSA newsletter and LinkedIn profile campaign. It is anticipated that the newsletter will be published in the third week of June pending completion of the NRI spotlight video interview from West African IGF.  The Secretariat took an action to include a review period for the EC before the newsletter goes live, as well as providing quick links to all post so the newsletter can be further disseminated and reposted through various social media channels.

Fundraising

  1. Brian Cute gave an update on outreach status with several ICANN constituencies. There is a plan to present in front of the RySG and the stakeholder group chair has requested to review the materials in advance of this meeting.  There has not been a response yet from the RrSG and further follow up is scheduled.  Regarding the outreach to the BC, Jimson Olufuye and Brian Cute will coordinate to incorporate learnings from calls with individual members of the BC before further action with this constituency.

  1. Wisdom Donkor gave a brief update regarding GODAN and took an action to follow up regarding funding support for certain sponsorship categories.
