77th meeting of the Executive Committee

- The Executive Committee held its 77th meeting in April 2024. The meeting took place in in a virtual setting with the following participants: Amrita Choudhury (chair), Nigel Hickson (Treasurer), Chris Mondini, Flavio Wagner, Wisdom Donkor, Anriette Esterhuysen, Amado Espinosa, Fiona Asonga, Joyce Chen; and from the Secretariat, Jennifer Chung and Phyo Thiri Lwin. A quorum was established for the meeting with all nine of the Executive Committee members.
- The Agenda was adopted as circulated, and the summary record of the 76th meeting is pending approval to be posted on the IGFSA website if no comments or corrections are received on the IGFSA EC mailing list by 24 April.
Discussion on IGFSA Annual Report
- There was a discussion about the potential for the designer’s rate for the current project, given the reduced design elements and producing a print-ready file. An EC member recommended Designer to turn around 24 hours with a pending rate of $50 USD for e-copy in print-ready format when printing rate is $4 per copy of the booklet. After discussing the designer’s charges and proposed deadlines, it was agreed that the finalized design would be completed by the end of the month.
- The Secretary gave an overview of the current status of funding requests:
- Mano River Union Internet Governance Forum (MRU IGF) – There was discussion on this request as this is a newly established sub-regional NRI. It was noted that there were some previous issues on overlapping initiatives both in terms of organization and sponsorship. The EC decided to decline funding for this request in 2024 and may revisit it again next year if applicable.
- European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) – The EC agreed to continue support of EuroDIG at the regional funding level. It was checked whether EC members’ participation at EuroDIG for the speaking opportunity. Chris and Nigel confirmed that they will be at EuroDIG. The secretariat will check with EuroDIG regarding this matter.
- Namibia IGF – The Secretariat have already informed the focal point that as IGFSA has a policy of not funding the IGF Secretariat grantees and their IGFSA funding request will be on hold until results of the IGF Secretariat grant is announced.
- École de la Gouvernance de l’Internet ONG Women Be Free – The Secretariat have already informed the focal point that as this is a school of Internet Governance is outside of the scope for IGFSA grants.
- Foro Panameño de Gobernanza de Internet Juvenil Youth IGF Panamá – The Secretariat noted that it checked the eligibility with IGF Secretariat so it was approved by EC through the mailing list and confirmed again during the call but the amount will be pending. Amado Espinosa took an action item to communicate with stakeholders within the Panama IGF ecosystem to see if there will be a planned national meeting this year.
- Benin National IGF – The Secretariat noted that this is still pending eligibility checks with the IGF Secretariat.
- Moldova IGF – The Secretariat noted that it received the notification of funding request this morning and checked the eligibility with IGF Secretariat. An EC member mentioned that the IGF Secretariat confirmed the eligibility with a note that IGF Secretariat Funding is on hold generally for all requests. The EC agreed to support this initiative and approved the request.
- The Treasurer gave an update on the IGFSA financials with a note of bill from the IGFSA accountant. He further noted that there are no pending payments. The Chair took an action to send follow up communications to the ICANN for paper works with the support of the secretariat. It was also mentioned that the ICANN budget has been tightened across all activities.
- There was discussion of a more comprehensive outreach plan and activity at ICANN 80 at Kigali in June. It was mentioned that IGFSA would need the report to seek their support. The respective EC members took an action to work with relevant ICANN staff to coordinate for a time slot for various relevant SO/AC sessions. There was discussion for the EC to look to update the previous outreach slide deck to the RySG from Chris Mondini for the purposes of the ICANN outreach sessions. It was noted that most of EC members would be in Kigali.
- There was a discussion to conduct outreach at the WSIS forum at the end of May. Several EC members confirm their attendance for the event. It was suggested to have some promotional outreach material (flyers) to be placed at the venue, possibly coordinated with the IGF Secretariat’s booth. Amado confirmed that he will assist with the strategic distribution of the outreach materials. There was discussion on the content, design elements and the possibility of using a QR code pointing to the IGFSA website. The secretariat will work with the EC further regarding this matter.
