78th meeting of the Executive Committee

  1. The Executive Committee held its 78th meeting on 23 May 2024. The meeting took place in a virtual setting with the following participants: Amrita Choudhury (chair), Flavio Wagner, Chris Mondini, Fiona Asonga, Anriette Esterhuysen, Wisdom Donkor, Joyce Chen; and from the Secretariat team: Jennifer Chung (Secretary) and Phyo Thiri Lwin. Apologies were received from Nigel Hickson (Treasurer). A quorum was established for the meeting, with seven of the nine Executive Committee members taking part.
  2. The Agenda was adopted as circulated, and the summary record of the 77th meeting is approved to be posted on the IGFSA website.

     Discussion on IGFSA Annual Report 

  1. There was a discussion about the final version of the IGFSA report. Fiona Asonga shared the final version of the IGFSA report and discussed pending editing, images and formatting updates.

     Discussion on outreach and membership drive

  1. Engagement at the upcoming related meetings were discussed, including at WSIS+20 High level forum, outreach speaking slots with the various stakeholder groups and constituencies at ICANN 80. The Secretariat discussed the outreach materials (annual report and flyers) and online outreach efforts. There was some discussion of potential engagement channels at the IGF meeting in Riyadh, including leveraging the NRI booth and the DotAsia booth.
  2. Funding Requests and Disbursement Status
    • The EC reviewed and approved the funding requests for the Internet Governance Forums in West Africa and Benin.
    • There was discussion on funding request for the Asia-Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum. There has not been a previous regional initiative request that included the youth IGF. There was further discussion on how IGFSA funded LACIGF and Youth LACIGF in 2023. The EC agreed to take the discussion of level of funding support to the EC mailing list.
  1. Discussion on Fundraising plans/ activities 2024
    • It was decided to distribute IGFSA flyers at the IGF booth at the WSIS+20 high level form to enhance engagement and increase membership. Additionally, to foster social media engagement, it was agreed that there should be timely posts highlighting IGFSA presence at WSIS+20 and include links to IGFSA membership.
    • It was agreed to coordinate the printing of IGFSA flyers and the annual report specifically for the ICANN80 Kigali meeting.
  1. AOB
    • It was confirmed that the next EC meeting will take place on the sidelines of ICANN 80 Kigali on June 13. The meeting format will be a face-to-face hybrid, allowing both in-person and remote participation.
